Turns out my brother's fiance used to play D&D and she's been holding on to the set for years. I borrowed it and inside is a 1980-81 TSR catalog. There are a lot fo games here I've never heard of 'Divine Right''Warlocks and Warriors' 'Fight in the Skies' - and some game called 'Snit's Revenge!', the unfortunately ambiguous cover font-age for which had me doing a triple take...Saladin Ahmedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17052841870041946321noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-44361462168211193062011-04-13T20:23:53.351-04:002011-04-13T20:23:53.351-04:00A you point out, TSR did seem to be working hard t...A you point out, TSR did seem to be working hard to diversify in the 80's and 90's. However, like so much they did in that time, they may have done more harm than good. Here's an article from '96 that blames TSR for the collapse of wargaming as a hobby:

http://www.costik.com/spisins.htmlAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-65510237067003769902011-04-13T19:39:32.570-04:002011-04-13T19:39:32.570-04:00The Awful Green Things From Outer Space - best TSR...The Awful Green Things From Outer Space - best TSR board game ever. I always wanted to play it. It was one of several TSR games (including Divine Right and Empire of the Petal Throne) that the stores in my area never carried.Gordon Cooperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12907319916602597979noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-61446782133596425052011-04-13T12:01:19.033-04:002011-04-13T12:01:19.033-04:00Stratego really bored me, not the least of which b...Stratego really bored me, not the least of which because there was no real give-and-take, there was simply a "this piece beats this piece" kinda thing, which to me takes all the fun out of it. There was more action to Battleship and Chess than Stratego, and when I graduated to offerings like "Risk" and "Car Wars" and "Ogre," I never looked back.Eric R. My main memory of playing is having my pieces decimated by a friend of mine, who then offered to switch sides. We did, and he proceeded to beat me.John Harper Brinegarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17592827787099084705noreply@blogger.com
