Much as I love all the cool names and places Gary invented, it's wrong to locate "D&D" in any of them. They're just examples to inspire and guide rather than replace one's own creativity.James Maliszewskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00341941102398271464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-77103756385956653402008-10-10T21:28:00.000-04:002008-10-10T21:28:00.000-04:00It sure looks to me that if you start with nothing...It sure looks to me that if you start with nothing or as close to it as you can, the Method will lead you naturally away from the Canon. That leads to a natural tension between the DIY joys of striking out on your own and holy-crap-Greyhawk-is-awesome-why-am-I-wasting-time-making-my-own-setting-itis. But at the heart of the matter, I think the more we use the Canon the more we're cover bands when we maybe should be making our own rock-n-roll.Jeff Rientshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17493878980535235896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-58469201243295107342008-10-10T20:33:00.000-04:002008-10-10T20:33:00.000-04:00It seems that I've been using Gygaxian Methodology...It seems that I've been using Gygaxian Methodology without even knowing the term for it during the design of the Dungeon Not Yet Named.

No conerns about balancing encounters towards a party other than consideration of what level of the dungeon they're placed in, using lots of tables to determine things within the setting, placement of secret and hidden clues that encourage thorough investigation, but are not part of the greater whole, and not worrying that an encounter might be too rough should the party not have an x,y or z within their ranks. That's what running away is for.

I will now include this term in my gaming vocabulary and over-all design plan.Michael Curtishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13217338828086458862noreply@blogger.com
