For the art first, that I stripped to use for my own characters sometimes, for the Holmes follow-up of playing lizard men, centaurs or whatever, right Sean and because one of my friends actually played Lassiviren the Dark. Like that.

We were supposed to create high-level characters from scratch for a game session and he decided to play a "named" character from this book. We then applied the house rule we had (no levelling up till you don't earn all the XP needed to reach this level, starting from 0) and Lassiviren became his character.

Funny that nowadays, when I think about Lassiviren the Dark, his character comes to mind instead of the original one...Kabuki Kaisernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-46429003009025576652009-04-16T22:13:00.000-04:002009-04-16T22:13:00.000-04:00Although it was of the first non-rule books I purc...Although it was of the first non-rule books I purchased back in the day. I hardly ever used it except for inspiration and that mainly drawn from the Personalities section. Still, I pulled it out of storage recently (along with my old Monster and Treasure Assortment) to help get me back into the swing of gaming.Keith Sloanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07319879076978887933noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-82552949906384023192009-04-16T19:53:00.000-04:002009-04-16T19:53:00.000-04:00Yep, yep, mmhmm, yep. You're right-on about Jeff De...Yep, yep, mmhmm, yep. You're right-on about Jeff Dee's stuff being too comic-booky elsewhere but perfect here... In addition to the Dee picture of the paladin, I really liked his 'illustionist' picture.

The Otus art was all (typically) excellent. I was a fan of Otus's style even as a wee lad, so being able to check out his own character was a real thrill (on par with seeing the stats for Mordenkainen, et al.).Akrasiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08734103159691571156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-86835224677785532142009-04-16T13:04:00.000-04:002009-04-16T13:04:00.000-04:00Wow! I could have created a handful of Rogue's Gallery's by myself before breakfast!
I do like the section that contains the Caravans, Pilgrims, Bandits, and random dungeon parties. Those are great when you roll up a random encounter and it's something like "Bandit Group".Badmikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06199830751033032585noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-59331857227332578372009-04-16T12:05:00.000-04:002009-04-16T12:05:00.000-04:00At least some of the players of the notable NPCs h...At least some of the players of the notable NPCs have said the stats in the Rogue's Gallery were made up for the product, and didn't reflect the actual characters.

Rob Kuntz saying Robilar was correct (and some info about the others):

http://piedpiperpublishing.yuku.com/topic/1985

Gary Gygax saying his characters were made up:

http://www.enworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=57832&page=11&pp=15Josephhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01355324231111953098noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-85001162090215962052009-04-16T12:02:00.000-04:002009-04-16T12:02:00.000-04:00I'm even too lazy to roll the stats for my own PC....I'm even too lazy to roll the stats for my own PC. So what I do is "Method V":

1. I pick the class I want to play, and I turn to that section in the Rogues Gallery.

2. I roll percentile dice.

3. I consult the appropriate Rogues Gallery chart.

4. I copy down the six stats.

Voila! Done! A single percentile roll, and I have a set of 6 stats that qualify me for the class I want to play.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-74595287249141368762009-04-16T10:41:00.000-04:002009-04-16T10:41:00.000-04:00I'm also a fan of The Shady Dragon Inn.
