I wish I could source it, but I believe the writers of the show were on record saying that they were fans of, or at least aware of, Palladium's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Other Strangeness. The show also introduced characters called the Dream Beavers, which are highly reminiscent of the Terror Bears, re-occurring villains from the RPG.
