(I'm a big BRP/RQ/d100 fan, so I'm always interested in seeing different permutations of the rules set).

There are a few things that I found quirky - for example, I don't really like skill point spending broken down by category. I prefer either the MRQ2 approach, where culture/profession provide skill bonuses and then a free point pool is allocated. Or, CoC's approach which is looser.

Otherwise, OQ seems like a solid system. I'm not sure if I'd use it over MRQ2, but maybe one day if I get tired of tracking combat actions.KPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18374233546533225028noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-33614078093973545822011-03-09T12:31:54.134-05:002011-03-09T12:31:54.134-05:00I've been tempted to get this, but, given I al...I've been tempted to get this, but, given I already own the BRP core rulebook and can customize it as needed*, I haven't been able to justify the purchase. (Call me old-fashioned; I'd prefer getting the paperback.) I assume it's as possible to write cross-compatible "D100" adventures that work with BRP, MRQ, and OQ, as it is to do so for the various D&D retroclones, so I hope this will lead to a wave of new products.

*(In other words, no hitpoints divided by location, and the hit-location and major wounds rules replaced by some kit-bashed from WFRP 1E.)Anthonyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01254215329246851683noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-62660065743666868772011-03-09T10:57:22.306-05:002011-03-09T10:57:22.306-05:00@kelvingreen: OQ uses the MRQ system, viz., charac...@kelvingreen: OQ uses the MRQ system, viz., characters are awarded 'improvement points' which they can use to improve skills, learn spells, etc.Akrasiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08734103159691571156noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-75511239241699545252011-03-09T10:32:37.162-05:002011-03-09T10:32:37.162-05:00Back in the 80's Runequest was played more by ...Back in the 80's Runequest was played more by a group of my friends than by myself. They dropped the Glorantha magic system and hacked the D&D-like level-based spells from Bard Games' Arcanum; spell casting was a skill, spells cost 1 POW per level and spell level also figured into the casting roll. The first important RPG publisher imported Chaousium rules, and they were very popular in late 80s and early 90s. I had great memories about Glorantha and the Young Kingdoms, D100 and demons invocation system.

Obviously, MERP and AD&D arrived sometime later and they were very popular. But, to many players, RQ and Stormbringer were THE fantasy roleplaying games.José Joaquín Rodríguezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05419481758371621113noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-63546558855964605552011-03-09T03:29:54.284-05:002011-03-09T03:29:54.284-05:00Does Openquest not use the old tick-the-boxes-and-...Does Openquest not use the old tick-the-boxes-and-roll-them-at-the-end advancement system from the Chaosium games?
