Mainly an update of trade dress?

Mostly, yes. The rules have been tightened up a bit (particularly with regard to psi powers) and better explained, but they're fundamentally the same rules as the original. I don't like new editions that aren't mostly backward compatible with their predecessors and the original Thousand Suns was perfectly fine as a ruleset, even if, as a rulebook, it was less than ideal.James Maliszewskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00341941102398271464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-17923730982587806192011-11-30T23:07:51.290-05:002011-11-30T23:07:51.290-05:00I should also add that the new rulebook is 90%+ id...I should also add that the new rulebook is 90%+ identical to the original in terms of content; the primary difference is its layout and organization, including lots of new artwork.

So, there's little in the way of game mechanic revision in this version? The Starships chapter of the revised rulebook was in fact largely written by Greg and is simply a simplified version of the rules presented in the Starships rulebook. I should also add that the new rulebook is 90%+ identical to the original in terms of content; the primary difference is its layout and organization, including lots of new artwork. So, if you have the original, there's really no necessity to buy the revision, though, speaking for myself, I can't stand to look at the 2008 version and will be very happy to be rid of it.James Maliszewskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00341941102398271464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-30956186413954475992011-11-30T22:50:57.818-05:002011-11-30T22:50:57.818-05:00As a huge fan, GM and player with many hours into ...As a huge fan, GM and player with many hours into the original version of TS, I can assure anyone who is even slightly interested in this game that it will be well worth the purchase.
