Here are some additional things that haven't been pointed out though about our Kickstarters:
We have always fulfilled them and every backer has gotten every one of the rewards they paid for. The quality of the items produced has been very well received. The last two Kickstarters we have done (Khan of Khans and Miskatonic University) both delivered on time, in full, on budget, and with no communication problems. Were mistakes made in the past? Of course. As usual, all criticism is welcome. Fortunately, we have also been learning from that feedback and past mistakes. Call fo Cthulhu Classic may not be everyone's cup of tea, yet for those that are looking forward to it, we don't expect that you will be disappointed. Chaosium has been working hard to rebuild trust and good will. The next Kickstarter we do will provide one more example of those efforts.Chaosium Rickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16733193603262090332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-77297869840056965902021-06-25T13:02:14.462-04:002021-06-25T13:02:14.462-04:00Can't help but agree. As I said above, my 1st ed high school games bore more resemblance to gangster films than Lovecraft's work most of the time, and even these days I'd be happier with more action at the table than a faithful adaptation of his writings would allow. Being doomed is fine, but you can at least make it a struggle on the way out - which is not something HPL's gloomy protags were known for.

I do think Pulp is surprisingly good at doing what it intended to do. The mechanical changes are small but the impact on character survivability is pretty big. Sadly a casualty of that is my RQ1/2 comparison document which I have taken private due to their complaints about too much copied stuff. Then Mr. Meints accused me of copying from his Meints Index of Glorantha for content of my own index, so I took that private also despite never having seen MIG and instead had laboriously made my own index, only borrowing a few magazine indices from other web sites.

I will buy stuff from them when it makes sense, but I am definitely a critical fan.

All that said, I will say their customer service is very good. When I got RQ2 POD instead of the Old School Resource pack I ordered, they quickly sent out a replacement and told me to keep the RQ2 softcover. And after confusion about one of the PDFs from the Kick Starter, they created an order for that PDF for free so now I have that one in the regular library and not just the Kick Starter download section.

I get the frustration with the timeline of the Kick Starter fulfillment and maybe they should have devoted more effort to it than they did, but at least they did complete it despite winding up with so many stretch goals. Many other Kick Starters with a huge list of stretch goals struggle to fulfill.Frankhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15855679156477779666noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-6644946494682647472021-06-24T13:16:27.174-04:002021-06-24T13:16:27.174-04:00No problem. And like you, my copy fell apart ages ago (it didn't even survive my high school campaigns) so the temptation to pick up a replacement is considerable, although I've no complaint with the current edition - or Pulp Cthulhu for that matter. The latter probably resembles my high school games more than actual CoC does, honestly. :)Dick McGeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14521293874696659063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-37842581062045116802021-06-24T11:57:23.262-04:002021-06-24T11:57:23.262-04:00It took them 5 years to complete it. During that time they were extremely lean on updates and when they did give an update for the massive delays of the rest of the classic PDFs, it was always "layout issues" and lack of staff/time to handle the layouts (all while producing plenty of brand new pretty RQ:AIG and COC products over this time period). Once the PDFs were finally done (end of 2019/early 2020), they still took another year to make them available in print (which was also part of the KS goals). IOW- they got the money, got out the initial print product (which they had pretty much ready to go at KS end) then took their sweet ass time in fulfilling the rest of it. 5 years. I know others have been burned by KS and never got anything so I shouldn't complain, but I really got sick of the constant excuses about layout and nobody/no time to do it while getting emails and seeing G+ updates every weeks about all the new products being published and in the pipeline with updates on their progress.
JEFFBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08862106711059104379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-5200684862469376402021-06-24T10:53:30.545-04:002021-06-24T10:53:30.545-04:00The third edition hardcover is a thing of beauty. ...The third edition hardcover is a thing of beauty.
