I even went back and purchased some over the years that I didn't get originally, such as some of the Days of the Dragon calendars.Jimmy Simpsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03265501552844485806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-80517194940236269122022-09-21T07:07:23.814-04:002022-09-21T07:07:23.814-04:00I had some of the Forgotten Realms and, I think, D...I had some of the Forgotten Realms and, I think, Dragonlance calendars... but never this one. If I HAD had it, it would have been chopped up and stapled all around the garage walls for inspiration...like the others...that's where my Folks let me use the big sewing/crafting table for gaming... and thus it wouldn't exist now.Brianne, You may call me Mistressynesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00855760861411516801noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-58003672133594869932022-09-19T13:54:41.146-04:002022-09-19T13:54:41.146-04:00Their work was the only good thing about the Shann...Their work was the only good thing about the Shannara novels.Matthew Mantelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13516805202174430356noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-32005564863685941682022-09-19T12:29:35.368-04:002022-09-19T12:29:35.368-04:00In fact, it appears that the 1983 Calendar (releas...In fact, it appears that the 1983 Calendar (released in 1982, of course) was Tim Hildebrandt's first solo project. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/WA8AAOSw8QlizFf4/s-l64.jpgM. That likely explains it. In my mind, they've always been The Brothers Hildebrandt. I dimly remember reading their novel Urshurak as a kid as well. I have no recollection what the novel was about, but have a vague notion that it was enjoyable enough if pretty derivative of Tolkien. But given I likely read this in the late 1980s, I don't know how trustworthy my memories of it are.

As for why only Tim worked on the D&D calendars, I suspect Greg alone could give a real answer as to why, but according to Wikipedia they started pursuing solo art careers in 1981 and didn't reunite to collaborate on art again until 12 years later. Not a bad set of paintings, but just a cash grab.

The various Dragonlance calendars that came out are pretty good examples of definitively "D&D artwork" to me. None of that art would have existed if it hadn't been commissioned by TSR, which seems like the best definition of the term.Dick McGeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14521293874696659063noreply@blogger.com
