I have never played <I>Capes</I>, but, if it's a superhero genre game without qualification, it's in the right ballpark.James Maliszewskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00341941102398271464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-83340177487008648172008-05-04T16:26:00.000-04:002008-05-04T16:26:00.000-04:00Well, not quite. For example: It's true that the GM has to decide what skills and such will be used in his game, but he doesn't have to design a skill system as such. If something like Sorcerer or Capes is too narrow and niche, and people in that thread complain about games with rules that cover too much, what's "just right"?Eric the Half-a-Beehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18150352086337447295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-30950930804165748162008-05-04T14:39:00.000-04:002008-05-04T14:39:00.000-04:00I like FUDGE a great deal. It's a generic game toolkit without too many assumptions mechanically, so it's much better suited IMO than, say, GURPS to cover a wide swath of gaming territory.James Maliszewskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00341941102398271464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-52893774628822294812008-05-04T14:36:00.000-04:002008-05-04T14:36:00.000-04:00Fudge is by far my favorite simple, broad game.Fudge is by far my favorite simple, broad game. Will Mistrettahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18403399118961902073noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-54856867531167186832008-05-04T13:59:00.000-04:002008-05-04T13:59:00.000-04:00There certainly are more minimalist designs out th...There certainly are more minimalist designs out there today, no question. However, these are very niche-y games, both in the sense that they're not widely played and (more importantly, I think) in the sense that their scope is often decidedly more limited than, say, <I>D&D</I>'s. Many Indie games are much too focused and narrow in my opinion, even if their mechanics are in fact simple and the gameplay is enjoyable. What I want is something that's both broad in scope and simple mechanically.James Maliszewskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00341941102398271464noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-52728485487297701952008-05-04T06:02:00.000-04:002008-05-04T06:02:00.000-04:00I may be out of touch with RPG design, but I thoug...I may be out of touch with RPG design, but I thought the last several years had been mostly characterized by more minimalist designs.
