Before that we found a treasure chest that his brother's character (and only his brother's character) couldn't open. It was that kind of game, and fell apart in two sessions.

So I don't get it either, but I'm pretty sure I didn't experience it as intended by the author. :)Dick McGeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14521293874696659063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-49253820893904862932021-12-10T06:41:53.713-05:002021-12-10T06:41:53.713-05:00True and sad story: teen me never "got" ...True and sad story: teen me never "got" X1artikidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17474295473142339717noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-30780131978628386712021-12-09T22:23:06.968-05:002021-12-09T22:23:06.968-05:00I should also confess that young me spent years th...I should also confess that young me spent years thinking Castle Amber was somehow related to the Zelazny books. Didn't encounter Clark Ashton Smith till I was in college. Between him and Manly Wade Wellman I owe the Penn State bookstore some thanks for broadening my reading horizons.Dick McGeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14521293874696659063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-48810607913915475752021-12-09T20:21:29.384-05:002021-12-09T20:21:29.384-05:00Going by your criteria I believe all of these woul...Going by your criteria I believe all of these would make my Top 10 as well, were I to sit down and go through things.

I'm a huge fan of Tom's works too- I know that X2 and B4 in particular would be ranked higher on my own list.JEFFBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08862106711059104379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-8529417876742567392021-12-09T16:54:09.273-05:002021-12-09T16:54:09.273-05:00Barrier Peaks is one of the two I did get to try &...Barrier Peaks is one of the two I did get to try "fresh" back in the day, and it was quite the mindbender when you hadn't gotten spoiled at all. We didn't even know we were playing a module until we were nearly done with it. At the time I figured the GM was mashing up Gamma World and D&D on his own.Dick McGeehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14521293874696659063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-37555690141467519592021-12-09T16:52:01.137-05:002021-12-09T16:52:01.137-05:00Kind of embarrassed to admit I only played two of ...Kind of embarrassed to admit I only played two of these back in the day. I've fixed that in later years, but the experience couldn't possibly be the same as encountering them new with none of the unavoidable spoilers you get through cultural osmosis.

In my defense, we usually played homebrew stuff in my younger days. I love the Isle of Dread; that module (and the BECMI Expert set) ignited my love for all things Mystara. It's been a long time since I looked at Castle Amber, so I don't remember it too well ... I may have to check it out again.

Looking forward to the rest of the list!Mike Wilsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17540681322379121483noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7487871339000666216.post-80683458966170370872021-12-09T13:16:48.076-05:002021-12-09T13:16:48.076-05:00I am a little younger, so I didn't get a crack...I am a little younger, so I didn't get a crack at most of these. The Lost City is the big exception, as a friend ran it in 3e without telling any of us that's what was happening; big fond memories. Barrier Peaks...I WISH I could have played that, especially tabula rasa, but then, I'm an easy "yes please" when it comes to science fantasy.mordicaihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05713766652793265867noreply@blogger.com
