I'm going to be spending the day trying to catch up on the flood of emails and comments I've not responded to over the last little while. My apologies for the slowness but I've been busy with other writing projects and I've always been a rather poor email correspondent anyway.
I'm also in the early stages of sprucing up the blog in preparation for (perhaps) a new look. Part of that involves going through my "links of interest" and removing dead ones while adding new ones. In general, blogs that haven't been updated in six or more months get removed but there are occasional exceptions. Websites are a different matter, naturally.
Anyway, if you know of any good blogs or sites that you'd think would be of interest to me and other readers of Grognardia, put them in the comments. I can't guarantee I'll add them -- I've already got a lot of links -- but I'm sure there are some great ones out there that I've missed. I'd appreciate knowing about them.
Oh, yes, I have decided to make Fridays an "open thread" day, so you'll see a post appearing at midnight tomorrow that poses a simple question on which you can offer your opinion. I won't be responding to any of the comments (even after Friday, when I come back online), but please do behave yourselves in my absence. I'm going to keep these open thread questions largely non-controversial to ensure limited acrimony, but they'll still be interesting questions nonetheless -- at least I hope they will be.
Well, my little blog would end up way down at the bottom of the list, but I wouldn't mind a bit more exposure to my crackpot ideas about gaming!
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't checked it out, give "What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse" a look and see.

Is it rude to suggest a link to my own site? Probably, but sadly my hermetical existence out here in the middle of nowhere has robbed me of the few social graces I once possessed. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I do keep my HeroMachine.com blog updated daily with sketches (lots of fantasy stuff in addition to super-heroes), and each Friday we have an RPG Corner where we talk about various RPG topics. Also, of course, you can use the HeroMachine itself to make character portraits for your games.
Well, I'm going to go ahead and offer my own site: http://towerofthearchmage.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteUnder the Kyak is new, but cool: http://underthekyak.blogspot.com/
http://rpgcharacters.wordpress.com/ has wonderful maps.
I nominate "From the Sorcerer's Skull" (http://sorcerersskull.blogspot.com/). Trey's writing is fantastic his pulpish sensibilities are a nice match for Grognardia.
ReplyDelete(I invite you to check out my own blog as well, but I won't hold it against you for not including it.)

I try to maintain a list of old school blogs:

If we're looking at shameless plugs, I'll throw in my blog, In Like Flynn:

I tend towards S&W game mechanics and tidbits about the campaign settings I'm working on, with the occasional GM advice article thrown in for good measure.
Hope This Helps,
Flynn
We don't have a blog but we do have a web site that may be of interest to gamers of the old-school persuasion,
ReplyDeletewww.spellbookgames.com
It's a modest site and we don't have a lot there now, but a lot of material in the pipeline. Take a look at our art page! We will be rereleasing the original AD&D module, Inferno, in a few weeks, followed this year by a lot more Inferno-related new products.
thanks,

I've started a sci-fi RPG blog called Exonauts! At the moment I'm developing a Space Pioneer setting for the X-plorers RPG.

I'm more of a fan of the OSR than a participant (I play D&D 3.5 and C&C). However, if nothing else, we seem to be on the same wave-length (I posted about Peter Cushing this morning as well) and I think you'd get a kick out of my posts about TSR's old Fantasy Forest books.
I'll throw my own into the mix as well: Carto Cacography at www.cartocagography.blogspot.com.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
I would like to suggest my own blog

It's almost in italian, but every post related to Swords & Wizardry is in english, so that I can share my production (mostly new monsters and House Rules).

ReplyDeleteMy blog, updated regularly since 2005.
I don't exclusively talk about OS gaming (or exclusively gaming for that matter) but OS gaming is a regular topic.
A lot of the higher profile blogs that were active a 1-2 years ago seem have gone dormant. In the meantime, there's been a lot great stuff happening in a more recent wave of blogs. A few of the newer blogs I gravitate towards (that you haven't listed) include:

ReplyDeleteOK, me to:
ReplyDeletetempleofdemogorgon.blogspot.com.
You won't see a lot of review of products in my posts, just my flesh and blood fun, foibles, and fears in my gaming life.
Look at some of my posts from last year to see me open my heart up about my gaming past. Yeah, I got me some issues...
I'm going to head away from suggesting straight gaming links, and instead propose a source of inspiration materials. The mind-alteringly incredible blog of architectural speculation - BLDG BLOG.
ReplyDeletehttp://bldgblog.blogspot.com/
On the current page you'll see concrete-laying bees generating and repairing buildings, a suburban house built over an abandoned church, the psychology of labyrinths, and "An edge over which it is impossible to look" which even mentions Lovecraft.
Well you've already got Joesky the Dungeonbrawler, so what else you need? :)
