Open Friday: Dwimmermount Requests

I've lately noticed an increasing level of interest in the specifics of the Dwimmermount setting, which surprises me. Since the setting is being created through play, there's a large amount even I still don't know about it. On the other hand, we have been using it for our OD&D campaign for two years now and quite a lot of details have been established. Based on comments and emails over the last few months, people are keen for me to share those details.

So, what topics pertaining to Dwimmermount that I have not covered (or covered only briefly) would you like to see me treat in future posts?

  1. It's not setting related, but I'd like to know how you stock the dungeon knowing that only two PCs are regularly going to plumb it.

    I also wanted to say that your recent posts on Necromancers were excellent. CAS would be proud.

  2. Maps! It'd be nice to have something to refer to while reading the session reports. Of course, the text to go with it would be great, too. (There, now I've asked for essentially everything!)

    Actually, I'd like to see your players maps if at all possible. Perhaps you could scan them or take pictures of them.

  4. I want to hear more about the joint world-building process that's going on between you and your players. How much of the world have they been responsible for (whether they knew it or not), what kinds of things have surprised you? I know that there's been a few examples mentioned already - like the dwarves building their young.

    That's the thing that particularly interests me about Dwimmermount - the extent to which your players are building Dwimmermount, not just prompting you to do it. To me it seems like a really interesting meeting point of the oldest of old-school games with the narrative style of indie games.

  7. Behind-the-scenes insights into the collaborative world-building process. How has Dwimmermount differed from your vision(s) of it based upon what the players have brought to the table?

    And, of course, eventually, a published version of Dwimmermount!

  8. I'll certainly purchase the Dwimmermount product when it gets published. I'm of the opinion that Dwimmermount is the best thing on this blog. In the meantime I'll put my vote towards getting to see the collaborative world-building process as well as an update on the PCs. Its been interesting to watch the characters grow out of rough sketches via the session reports. Dordagdonar's player especially seems to have a flair for the roleplaying. And if it doesn't give too much away from your future publishing, I'd love to see some of the "set piece" rooms/encounters put up in greater detail.

  9. I'm with Carter, I'd like to hear how things turned out differently than you expected.

    Also, I'm curious in the process in which the campaign development took place. How much of the Dwimmermount dungeon did you have in place before the campaign started, for example, and what happened as place moved forward?

  11. Tell us about how some of the common monsters fit into Dwimmermount. Is there anything that would make a dragon different in the way the PC races are, for example?

  12. This is a difficult question to answer, because part of me would like to see a full "campaign setting" style treatment of Dwimmermount that I can just use as "idea-fodder" for my own game. But then again I think that would take away part of the charm of Dwimmermount.

    It's difficult because this is a product I'd really want to buy, but by it's very nature, Dwimmermount is constantly evolving because it's actually your home campaign setting that you're still using. So, once you write something down in a product that you sell, it's "canon" and you can't change it in your game that you write about in your Blog (well, you can but people will say, "Wait! On page 12 it says that the King of the Rats died!" or whatever).

    So, all of that is to say... I'll read anything you put in a Dwimmermount product you sell, but I still hope you continue writing the session recaps of your actual game, even if they end up contradicting something you put in your Dwimmermount setting book.

  13. I'd be curious to know how you handle characters whose players can't make a session: does the character "not exist," does someone else run them, do you run them?

  16. I too am interested in the collaborative world-building process as its something I do regularly and would love to compare notes.

    I'd also like to see a PC update. Its easier to watch the game when you know the players. I can't remember who said that, Yogi Berra or Lou Costello.
