M.A.R. Barker's second novel of Tékumel, Flamesong, is available once again, in both paperback and Kindle formats. Of the two Tékumel novels originally published by DAW in the 1980s, Flamesong is by far the more accessible to readers familiar with "traditional" fantasy adventure tales, making it a good entry point for newcomers to the setting. The Tékumel Foundation very kindly asked me to write the foreword to this re-release, which I was happy to do. If all goes well, we'll see new releases of Professor Barker's other three Tékumel novels in the near future.
Me & my beat-up old mass market appreciate the heads up!
ReplyDeleteI may have to buy this and the reissue of Man of Gold just for the diacritics. Thanks for the heads-up!
ReplyDeleteGreat news! I just hyped this in r/Fantasy if anyone wants to upvote for visibility. Wish more people read Barker!

I would certainly love to see the release of the others! I finally read both Man of Gold and Flamesong earlier this year, and thoroughly enjoyed them
ReplyDeleteHappy to hear it's finally an e-book.
ReplyDeleteDidn't even register that they weren't available, at least as e-books. Bought my copy at Waldenbooks back in the day, before B&N bought and destroyed the chain so they could become a toy store in the 2020s.
ReplyDeleteThe Kindle edition of Flamesong seems to have disappeared from Amazon some time after I bought it on the 4th. I hope this is just a temporary hiccup!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on writing the new forward! I enjoyed both Man of Gold and Flamesong, but have never been able to find the other novels. I hope they can be made available once more.

That can't be right
Where is the new one available? I can't find it.
ReplyDeleteJames, finally started reading the new Kindle edition and it has a serious problem -- it skips a whole bunch of chapters after chapter one, ignoring the introduction of the Baron's children, etc. and moving straight to the first tubecar stop. I hope you can communicate with the publisher, as the book isn't worth reading with so much missing early material. Hopefully they can get a rapid 2nd edition out.
ReplyDeleteYes, sadly, there is a problem. Amazon knows about it, I am told, and they are "escalating" to achieve a solution. Beyond that, I don't know much more, I'm afraid.
