Hmmm

According to my hit trackers, my recent Dwimmermount post is getting lots of hits from the Wizards Community site. Unfortunately, I can't tell precisely where on that site all these hits are coming from or why that particular blog entry has been linked. Given how rarely I talk about the WotC editions -- I don't think I have in months -- it's a strange thing, but no stranger, I suppose, than getting hits from US government agencies or the Canadian prime minister's office, which have both happened in the past.

  1. Probably this mention (found via Google)?

  2. Go figure. Thanks for that link. I hadn't seen it and am more than a little surprised to do so. I know of several people at WotC who regularly read the blog, but an actual link like that is unexpected.

  3. It's pretty funny that they're using it as an intro to promote a new Tomb of Horrors.

  4. Heh! I noticed that last night, and I almost never go there:)

Oddest I've received were hits from the Brazilian Federal Senate and the US Senate Sgt. of Arms office.

  6. James,

The US .gov hits are because of your "Taliban" element in your ficto-bio.

  7. Timeshadows,

It's possible, although most of the hits are coming from place like the Library of Congress, NASA, and NOAA rather than some place associated with national security. I suspect it's just that lots of geeks work for the science/technical/archival branches of the government.

  8. *raises hand*

Guilty for the LOC hits. I check your blog from work a few times a day and occasionally send a link to one of your posts along to a co-worker in my gaming group.

  9. heh, heh; looks like you have been co-opted. :D

  10. Actually I find it strange that you find it strange James.

I mean, regardless of edition and/or company, you are, generally speaking, addressing D&D more often then not on your blog. An idea or concept applied to one can, with varying levels of difficulty, be applied to another. Someone who is interested in D&D may be interested in several editions or independant of edition.

Its like someone saying, "I don't like Star Trek. Voyager sucked." Voyager isn't Star Trek anymore then a single, sandy shell is a beach.

Either that or all you D&D guys looks alike to me.;)

  11. James, as a loyal reader, I have to say, you really must up your output on Fridays. It's absolutely crucial to my procrastination. Thank you.

  12. I can take credit for some of the U.S. Government hits...your tax dollars at work (well, maybe not yours since you're living north of the border).

  13. "Canadian prime minister's office"

As the most famous Canadian who actually still lives in Canada, I would imagine it's a part of the PM's duties to keep tabs on you.

  14. As I keep explaining, my wife's the Canadian. I'm just here for the weather.

  15. So you claim. I doubt the PM's office sees the distinction. The key is to make sure the Wayne Gretzky of the Canadian RPG scene doesn't defect.

If you have any plans to move to L.A. in the near future, I wouldn't post them on your blog.

  17. I've already lost the link to the "Ontario Sucks" song, but my kids were playing it all day long yesterday, and I had to inflict it on someone else. You're the only Ontarionion I know.

  18. ...plus, I don't think you should be ashamed about being Canadian. Lots of people are Canadian, unless you measure it in terms of Canadians per square mile.

  20. It took me a while to find out why I was getting hits from the Giant In The Playground website and I scoured their forums for a while until I found the link.

I thought maybe they found out that I bought the Pathfinder rpg through some nefarious way.

Ooops! Did I just admit to buying the Pathfinder rpg!

  22. Hey I love Canada! They gave us Shatner, Alpha Flight and lots and lots of cute Canadian chicks (attractive faces like French chicks but bodies like British ones...oh yeah).

    I need sleep.
