Happy Birthday, Professor Barker

Somehow, I'd forgotten that today is the 82nd birthday of Professor M.A.R. Barker, creator of Tékumel and a member of the first generation of our hobby. Now that I've been reminded of it, I'd like to extend my most heartfelt good wishes to Professor Barker on this occasion. He is a continued inspiration to us all.

May he have many more birthdays to come.

  1. Happy Birthday indeed. Tekumel is one of the few fantasy worlds that truly "transports" me to a different place when I read about it. Hopefully someday MAR's mega-dungeons will be published.

  4. I would say Happy Birthday, but somehow that doesn't cut it-- "A Most Esteemed & Reverent Application of Celebration on the August & Well-Omened Day of the Ascension of the Most Vibrant Soul to Being."

  5. One of my favorite, and most influential, creators! "This writer believes fantasy should explore new worlds and new ways of life..." as he so aptly put it.

I used to be able to say this, so let's try... "Ngangmuru bruhaya lel brumazik"!

Anyway, a happy belated celebration of your day of birth, Professor Barker!

  7. For me, Professor Barker stands head and shoulders above every other creator of fantasy worlds. I have spent thousands of hours playing Tekumel and am not ashamed to say I had some of the greatest experiences of my life there. Happy birthday, sir.
