Dangerous Journeys Commercial

Once again, reader Marc Sonnenberger has pointed me toward a video worth sharing: a TV spot advertising Dangerous Journeys. I'd never seen this before, so it's quite the find.

  1. I am utterly fascinated by this piece. Where in the world was that going to play in 1993? Anyone have any clue?

    1. I want to say "late night local TV slots", but then I also realize that, looking back from the standpoint of 2025, _ALL_ 1990s American TV advertising now looks like "made for late night local TV".

    2. I've had people tell me they saw it at least once during an afternoon cartoon block (ala the Disney Afternoon thing, but not actually Disney) but I remain unconvinced that this ever actually aired anywhere. It's possible it got filmed and just put in a storeroom, after all. DJ was not around long, and spent most of its existence under legal pressure from TSR, and commercials would have only made TSR more irate.

  4. I still have the Dangerous Journeys book. Never could convince my friends to try it, we all had just switched to D&D 2nd Edition.

Going to Waldenbooks at the mall was a treat as a teen.

Funny commercial, odd a bare baseline was chosen for the music.

  7. "So you're the guy who invented roleplaying games?"
"Right, I did that back in 1974."

Needs an edit where Dave Arneson runs in from off-camera and hits him with a folding chair, pro-wrestling style.
