I find it beautiful and easy to read on an iPad directly at the Substack site. (If Anonymous #1 was reading the displayed sample here, I could see their difficulty.)
I’ll remember the names, Paolo Greco and Lost Pages. As soon as I saw this, I recognized seeing this style previously with the awesome Burgs & Bailiff Trinity publication he did with Mike Monaco (and Dyson Logos provided maps). Highly recommended.
One thing: without context I initially thought the italicized text was the main text instead of the commentary, based on their relative volumes.
Another thought. You previously asked about reformatting the dungeon entry above for use in play. That is obviously orthogonal to what you ask about here, in that someone using the dungeon for play probably wouldn’t want all this commentary increasing the amount of text they have to flip through.
I personally am not the audience for that. If I run a long-form old-school campaign in someone else’s setting, it would be Tékumel in its original presentation (from EPT through the Book of Ebon Bindings). Or Nippon (i.e., the Bushido RPG).
But I would be very interested in this commentary version as I incubate my “A Ribbon, Torn” setting for classic Traveller, with religion, language, and culture getting attention they lacked in the three LBB and their successor digest-sized supplements.
The posted italics is not legible to me. I'd be reading with a magnifying glass. For the sample, I had to zoom in
