Another Conan Pic

This one, again, came to my attention from the official Robert E. Howard forums.

I'm uncertain if this image is from a movie poster or some other promo image or what, but it's clearly heavily photo-manipulated. Again, I have very mixed feelings about the look of this. I can only say that it's certainly a dynamic (if peculiar) image and a departure from the way Conan was portrayed in the John Milius film. Whether this means it'll be any closer to Howard, I don't know.

Once again, time will tell.

  1. I dig Momoa but at the risk of sounding euro-centric he does look a little... I dunno, Assyrian or something. still hard to see him as the big C.

willing to give the filmmakers the benefit of the doubt but with the spate of recent awfulness (clash of the titans coughcough) lately no high expectations here.

  5. Not good form. EITHER he's taking a high guard on the wrong shoulder, OR he's caught throwing a cut, leading with the hands. Even my novice students would cut him down like a dog.

From the point of view of the filmmakers this is a feature, not a bug; a way to distance themselves, and their film, discreetly from Howard's Aryan-myth hokum racism.

What's ironic is that the manipulated colours are obviously designed to resemble "photo-realistic" airbrush fantasy art of the Frazetta school.

  8. Note that in your lifetime you've probably never laid eyes on a contemporary movie poster that wasn't heavily 'photo-manipulated.' If you're holding out for 'Errol Morris's Conan,' the time to start changing your expectations is right...now. ;v)

I fail to see what's so different between that Conan and this one?

  10. I want a more savage, dirty looking Conan. Just my 2 cents.
