RIP: Ray Bradbury (1920-2012)

"You must write every single day of your life... You must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear books like hats upon your crazy heads... may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world."

  1. He left future generations with the legacy of his writings. He will be missed, but his writings will endure.

  2. Unless the folly of Man destroys them. As RB once said:

"We have too many cellphones. We've got too many internets. We have got to get rid of those machines. We have too many machines now."

Bradbury chose a headstone that reads "Author of Fahrenheit 451".

Says a lot 'bout his view of our "progress".

  3. Rest in Peace, sir.  Even those of you out there who detest SF should give yourselves the treat of reading Dandelion Wine.

  4. My very favorite writer. Coincidentally, I'm currently in the middle of reading his "I Sing the Body Electric!" short story collection. Very bittersweet now. RIP.

  5. James: also one of my favorite literary quotations. It's exactly how I feel about books, libraries, old bookstores, etc. Truly a master who will be missed.

I was very sad when I heard this on the radio today.  I have some tapes of him reading some of his own short stories and talking about writing and his life that I listened to late last year, and they were incredible.
