Wascally Wabbit

Also from Dragon #48 (April 1981) is the write-up below, written by Lawrence J. Schick and illustrated by Jeff Dee. Of particular interest is that Schick references elements of the original "Known World" setting that he co-created with the late Tom Moldvay in the mid-1970s (and that would later be incorporated into the D&D Expert Rulebook published in the same year as this article).

  1. I always liked these Giants in the Earth articles. While I wouldn’t use these characters, it’s interesting to see how someone would interpret them in game terms.

    2. It's good pub chat, and the sort of thing that we did.

  2. Was this the same article with the Jolly Green Giant and his treasure of thousands of little green spheres and little orange cubes, etc?

    1. I enjoyed the Jolly Green Giant but imagine a lot of players now wouldn’t know the reference. Bugs Bunny is at least still current.

    2. You'd be surprised. I've run into young folks who've never seen anything with Bugs in it. They know the character's name through cultural osmosis or from seeing ads for Space Jam, but that's about it. Not as depressing as the ones who can't tell Daffy from Donald, but still kind of sad.

There's just too much entertainment media available these days for everyone to have the kind of "universal" shared experiences that existed 30 or 40 years ago.
