  1. The cartoon lacks a friendly model, posing alongside the doors. Perhaps she's there, but just out of view.

  2. Younger readers may not get the reference to the game show "Let's Make A Deal," which featured 3 numbered mystery doors contestants would choose from in hopes that a prize would be revealed, and which was hosted for over two decades by Monty Hall. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but a D&D dungeon overloaded with easily gained treasure--the opposite of the "killer dungeon"--was dubbed (by Gygax?) a "Monty Haul" dungeon.

    1. He did, Michael. Jim Ward was the original Monty Hall DM. There's also a link to the whole story in this short summary:

    3. The above link is to Stephen's blog, which is very nice. But if you want to read the original Gygax/Monty Haul story, it's here: https://www.enworld.org/threads/the-origin-of-monty-haul.666872/

  3. There's an entire generation of gamers who have no idea who Monty Haul is.

  4. I started gaming in late Eighties and while here in Finland we had no idea who Monty Hall or his game show was, everyone knew what the Monty Haul campaign was, Gygax explained it in the Dungeon Masters Guide.
