Simple Starships

Though the two are separate things with their own distinct focuses, there are times when I think readers of this blog will be interested in what I'm doing over at Grognardia Games Direct. Today's post is one of them, especially since I'm soliciting feedback on a proposed revision to the rules of Thousand Suns

  1. I'll put this in a comment since it probably doesn't merit cluttering up your inbox. I feel like I'm not getting what's going on here -- this reads to me like lightly rewritten Book 2 with some very mild houserules. What am I missing? FWIW I have no problem with these rules and would be perfectly comfortable using them if the right occasion arose. I can't think of anything else to say because they seem so familiar already -- right back to the literal first weeks of my gaming life.

    1. What you may be missing is that, originally, Thousand Suns didn't have a starship construction system in its main rulebook and the system that appeared later, in a supplement, was much more complex than the one linked above. This is the first step in a process of producing a new and easier to use construction system. That it might bear some resemblance to Book 2 isn't surprising, though that wasn't the intention.

    2. Ah! That does make it make plenty of sense, thanks. I really would give this new proposal a thumbs-up (without knowing the combat, trade/economics, tech level kinds of rules that 'operationalize' them). As an easy, consistent, lo-fi design system it's hard to beat this or Book 2... IMO
