Alone in the Dreamlands

The latest post about Dream-Quest is a public one, because I want to solicit comments and suggestions from as wide a pool as possible. Feel free to post your thoughts here or, if possible, over at the Patreon.

  1. I can't comment there so will comment here, I guess. I enjoy solo RPGs when I can find the time. An engine that did both solo and group play in the Dreamlands would be very interesting to me.

  2. Group play. Roleplaying has always been social for me. I've never taken myself through a solo module.

Randolph Carter encounters others in the Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath. Pickman could be another PC. Ghouls in the Dreamlands could be a playable class.

Kuranes travels with his knights. The Cats of Ulthar (already a playable class) travel in groups and aid Carter.

Group play also allows for PCs to recognize each other and perhaps connect in the waking world!

  3. I think that it's worth noting that a lot of the early adventure gamers played one-on-one with a DM, after getting a little experience with a surviving character. If the abilities of a character are reasonably broad, they should be able to meet reasonable challenges even if characters of another type/class/whatever might have an easier time with some sorts of challenge or a harder time with others. Of course, this is just abstractly thinking about approaches.
