The upcoming John Carter movie seems a heck of a lot more promising than the Conan one. Check out this fansite for a round up of the latest news, most of which make me a lot more sanguine about its prospects than I originally thought.
Thanks to Greyhawk Grognard for the pointer.
This does begin to raise one's spirits... now if only the screenplay isn't idiotic.
ReplyDeleteJohn Lasseter (of Pixar) now heads Disney's film projects. Besides being a great director, he's a certified sci-fi/fantasy geek! I have a lot of faith that this will be excellent.
ReplyDeleteGee, if only Traci Lords was in this one too.
ReplyDeleteI remember getting to see a lot more of her in the late 80's/early 90's. :)
Even if they muck it up, they are doing reboots in a couple of years rather than decades now. We might get another shot. I'd love to see a live action John Carter done right (even halfway right) some day. I would not have said this a couple of years ago, but I think James Cameron is the man for the job.
ReplyDeleteOops, my bad. It is live action!
ReplyDeleteI think the guy they got for Carter looks a little too "Dawson Creek," Dejah Thoris may be just right. You need a girl who is gorgeous of face, and athletic but busty. She fits the bill. Here's a non-work friendly naked (but tasteful) pic of her. Hubba Bubba!

I told you! You didn't believe me but I told you it would all be okay.

ReplyDeleteI don't know. Cameron's a great director of technology, but he's not so great when it comes to directing living human beings. Most of his films feel very shallow on their own merits; whatever depth they possess is more a testament to the natural talent of the actors involved than anything Cameron has done. Above all, a Barsoom movie has to be about the characters. It's important that it look great of course, but that's really secondary to believing in John Carter.
