Woo-hoo!

Looks like I've managed to snag myself copies of the Stormbringer Companion for the 1st edition of the game and Demon Magic (which is, I believe, for the 2nd edition) for reasonable prices. This makes me very happy. Are there any other supplements for Stormbringer worth getting, bearing in mind my preference for the 1st-3rd editions of the game?

I'm still trying to snag a copy of Pavis & Big Rubble, as well as Hawkmoon, though the latter looks to be a lot easier to find than the former.

  1. Ken Rolston's two-part adventure, "The Black Sword" and "Stealer of Souls," is quite good. The PCs are sent to kill Elric (yes, this is indicated to be suicidal), so they track him as he's cutting a swath of destruction across Melnibone. They arrive at each new locale just after Elric has left, and must deal with the devastation he's left in his wake. It's all very fateful in a Moorcockian way.

  2. Congrats. I still have the Atlas and the Sailing supplement. I need to re-purchase Rogue Mistress, Pan Tan, Purple Towns and Unknown East. These are all written from 4th edition onward, but I figure I'll make 'em work.

  3. There was also an Eternal Champion rpg put out by Chaosium.

  4. Congratulations, those are great supplements. I second the recommendation for the Rolston adventures mentioned above, and I'd also suggest you look for Bronze Grimoire. While it was written for Elric! (the version that came between Stormbringer 4th and 5th), it has loads of good, atmospheric magic.

Security word: "Ammul," a Scythian priest of Conan's time.

  5. I must have missed this somewhere along the way, but why not 4th Edition?

(The Bronze Grimoire and Unknown East are fantastic books far outside your criteria.)

  6. I like 4th Edition too. but there's something more raw and pulpish about 1st trough 3rd. Especially the 1st ed.

  7. Ken St. Andre's "Bastions Of Balo" adventure (published in Different Worlds #31) has several flashes of brilliance. I've never run it, but I hope to run it at a convention some day.

  8. I bought "Demon Magic" many years ago, in a Spanish edition from Joc Internacional Publishing ("Demonios y Magia") and I loved it. Two very good adventures and some amazing places.

Another book that I loved was "Sorcerers of Pan Tang" ("Hechiceros de Pan Tang"), but I know neither his year nor edition.

  9. Once some disposable income rolls in, I'd really like to pick up all the Stormbringer stuff. I have everything that went with 4th Edition and Elric.

  10. "Sorcerers of Pan Tang" was 4th edition.

I own the 1e version of 'Hawkmoon' (box set), along with the only module AFAIK published for the setting ('The Shattered Isle').

Strange that I owned and played Hawkmoon, but never picked up Stormbringer, back in the day (at least not until 1993, when I purchase Elric!).

That's my feeling too. 1e is, as you say, a very "raw" game and that frankly appeals to me. Its lack of polish is part of its appeal. When I play a fantasy game other than D&D, it needs something -- preferably several somethings -- to distinguish it and 1st edition Stormbringer achieves this through its gloriously rough around the edges feel.

  12. If you have the Companion and Demon Magic then that's pretty much it, besides the aforementioned Black Sword and Stealer of Souls adventures.

Always found Stormbringer to be a refreshing change of pace from DnD from time to time.

  13. I do have the Hawkmoon boxed set but I've never had the chance to use it.

  14. I have the boxed sets 'Pavis' and 'Big Rubble'. I'm about to put them up on Ebay (user ID Chotii) or I know there are also copies available via bookfinder.com for $103 and $124 respectively.

The box for Pavis is broken at two corners along one side; Big Rubble is unbroken. Both boxes are in rough, faded, handled shape. HOWEVER the components are in very good shape, complete, not written in.

You can contact me at chotiius@gmail if interested.
