Old School RQ in PDF

Good news for everyone who's keen to get hold of Moon Design's excellent "Gloranthan Classics" series. All four volumes of the series are now available as PDFs from Issaries on RPGNow. They sell for $20.00 apiece or you can get all four for $60.00, which is a good savings. They're expensive, yes, and they're not a replacement for honest-to-goodness hardcopies, but they're excellent products that are otherwise hard to find. I'd recommend getting them if you have the money to do so and have any interest in Chaosium era RuneQuest.

  2. Its nice I agree, but those prices are way too steep for a PDF. They should know better...

  3. eh, for something that has been out of print for 30 years, has a very dedicated core following, aren't just some scans but professional produced materials - i understand the pricing.

these aren't impulse buys, they are for people who want to fill holes in their collection and read what they've been missing for years... and cant afford collectible pricing on them.

you either like pdfs or you don't, but in this case the originals are priced WAY beyond the pdf prices, if you can find them

  4. I wish they were a bit cheaper, but still....

  5. Fantastic news. In my experience that's a reasonable price for the material, even if you only use them as idea mines. They're rich mines.

  6. Moon Design still has hard copies of all but one of these for $30 each, you just have to email Rick Meints.
I'd much rather have a book in hand for ten more dollars...

  7. How do I e-mail Rick Meints? Do you know which one he is out of?

  8. For $20 apiece, I expect something I can hold in my hand! That is way too steep for a bunch of ones and zeroes!

  9. What good news! I can finally sell my set. As for PDFs versus books, living out of a suitcase for twelve years will permanently dispel hard copy's glamour. As for the price, I couldn't scan, even with a Konica Minolta professional model, even one of these books in the time it takes me to earn US$60--which I'll probably recover by their sale.

  10. I'm a bit surprised by the price. One year from now it would be really interesting to see who bought those for those prices, and if they had a history with glorantha.

Personally my limit for PDF is $10, and then it has to be good. OTOH, I would pay $60 for one of those volumes in hardcopy.

I know for a fact they still had Cult Compendium, Borderlands and Beyond and Griffin Mountain a month ago.

  12. Great! Having sold off the original copies I owned, I've always wanted these back. PDF versions are great space savers too! But I'd like to see the original RQ (Chaosium) available in a PDF as well.

  13. Hello all,

I hate to admit it, but I am a little surprised by the "prices way too steep" and "wish they were a bit cheaper" comments. Yes, there are cheaper PDFs out there, and I understand some people are on tight budgets. That said, $20 for 300 pages of awesome rpg material seems like a fair price to me. I looked around drivethru before setting the price on these and saw Chaosium's "Beyond the Mountains of Madness" pdf for over $50, Most of Mongoose's RQ 150 page books going for $15, Alderac's 160 pagers going for $15, Cubicle 7's books at about a penny a page, etc. so I thought I was pricing fairly.

I guess one person's fair price is just gouging to another.

Regardless, thank you for the feedback. I appreciate it.

  14. Okay, so are all these products adventures/scenarios kind of stuff, or do any of these have the original (well, 2nd edition) RuneQuest rules in them, too?

  15. I just picked up the .pdf megabundle. There's a lot of supplemental rules material, but the RQ2 rules are not included. Included are Pavis/Big Rubble, Griffin Mountain, Cult Compendium (which is Cults of Prax, Cults of Terror, the gods from Trollpak and a few other sources), and Borderlands & Beyond.

Very much worth it to me but no, you're not going to play RQ with just these books.

  16. Bought the PDFs, and only two minor complaints: annoying watermarking on every page and no bookmarks to match the table of contents. Still a great deal, and not just because you can't find them in hard copy anymore.

Rick, thank you for publishing these.
James, thank you for writing this blog post.
