Hot Elf Chick Welcomes You to Vanaheim

Technically, Freya's not an elf, but I figure, given that her brother is lord of the Ljósálfar and Jeff Dee drew her with pointed ears in this illustration from Deities & Demigods, she ought to count as my contribution to James Smith's fiendish plan to grow the OSR. Plus, anything I can do to perpetuate the notion that we old school bloggers operate as a navel-gazing hive mind who don't generate any useful content is good by me.

  1. I remember us looking at that drawing and asking "Who knew Norse goddesses moonlighted as go-go dancers?"

  2. Take note, Mr. Sheen, now THAT's a goddess! ;)

  3. Yeah, this movement will do wonders for the "basement dwelling, socially inept, afraid of girls" stereotype of D&D players. Thanks.

Maybe the OSR can think of ways to get more women interested in the game instead of coming up with strategies to actively repel them?

  8. There's worse goddesses to fall in love with than Freya, that's for sure, Bard ;-)

I wonder if Deities and Demigods mentions that she has a chariot pulled by two cats?

Incidentally, Alfheim is in the D&D Clyclopedia, in the Known World section... and it does indeed contain elves.

  13. To Al, earlier today Gothridge Manor showed up as third on my Google search. Woohoo!

I agree with Johnathan. Much bigger issues. Pie or cake. Answer the question and nobody gets hurt.

  14. Ut, just checked again and now Tim (Gothridge Manor), is number four on my search. Hot dog. This has been a fun OSR holiday. Great to see how many participated in James's game.

  16. @cibet - I'm a woman and I'm not offended.
I think the mini-project is actually quite amusing and it's nice to see OSR blogs collaborating.

“For answer the girl raised her revolver and fired point-blank at him. Without a sound he sank to the earth, dead.
"Beast!’ she hissed. ‘After all these years I am at last revenged." (GM IV)

“No sense of fear influenced her decision, for fear is seldom known to the children of Mars. It was rather a sense of the responsibility that she, the daughter of their jeddak, felt for the welfare of her father's people. (TMM I)
