Look the Part You Play

Another interesting advertisement from Dragon, this time from issue #67 (November 1982):

  1. I’d laugh… But I’ve got a closet full of Ren Faire outfits, SCA garb, and LARP costumes. So I’m just gonna stand here in my glass house and not throw any stones.

  2. I never cared for cosplay or LARP. De gustibus and all that.

  3. You really have to wonder if it came with stars all over it or if that's just artistic license. The fact that they don't even say what color it is strikes me as particularly ominous somehow.

  4. My mom made me a wizard costume for Halloween one year...probably circa 1985/86 (in other words, loooong before the advent of Harry Potter). One of the best Halloween costumes I ever had.

I never wore it a gaming session, however.

  5. The Outfit you never knew you wanted... and now I need one.

I fact, I'm going to print that out, fill in the measurements, and snail-mail it to the stated address, including the $USD needed to pay for it. I fully expect it to arrive within the stated 8 weeks.

  8. I went as a magic user one time as well. Mom made me robes from some shiny silver cloth she had left over from a project. I also had a staff.

  9. Having had to estimate 1982 dollars in today's money at work today, I calculate that's $228 for the costume.

    1. Considering a quick google search leads me to believe that current day Star Wars full costumes – Stormtrooper, Wookie, or Darth Vader for example - easily go for about 1.000 $USD (or even twice that amount), that price is a real bargain.
