Petty Gods Cover

Just in case you were wondering, work on Petty Gods is proceeding, albeit slower than expected. I'll have an update on that sometime this coming week, so please don't pester me about it. I feel bad enough for how long it's taken me to tie up the last few loose ends from it as it is.

In the meantime, though, enjoy this awesome cover image, produced by Thomas Denmark, which strikes exactly the right chord with me. I can't tell you how blown away I was when I saw it. Bravo.

  2. Nice.

    I have been wondering...

    That was petty of me.

  5. Super effin' cool! Need to ask: do you think all the gods published will have an illustration?

  6. Looks fantastic. No doubt someone has already pointed out the typo on the cover? :-)

  7. Very nice! I'm honored to have an entry in there. :)

  12. My oh my. That really is a gorgeous and evocative cover. Well done and congrats to all involved in this project!

  13. Great cover. I especially like the figures not in the spotlight, that sort of surprise the eye as you pick up on them after the first glance. Also love the "OSR" logo -- I had to do a double-take on that one. :)

  14. The OSR logo is clever and the art is absolutely wonderful - but 'the Old School Renaissance community' is clunky and awkward. 'OSR' does the job for those who give a damn; why not leave off the unattractive text and just let your (James's) name stand alone? Classier, heaven knows.

  15. Beautiful! With just the right hint of humour

  16. Ace. I love it. I had no intention of buying this product; that cover has changed my mind. Yes, I am that shallow. If not shallower.

  17. Beautiful! Congratulations James (and Thomas)! I can't wait to see it.

  20. Looks great! This will make the perfect companion to my tattered copy of Judge's Guild's "Unknown Gods" book.

  21. Very nice indeed! Again, sorry I was too lax to stat up some of my creations for inclusion. Can't wait to see the finished product :)

  22. Fantasticly awesome late 80s TSR looking cover! I can't wait to have this in my hands!

  23. I think the fighter on the cover is looking at the Medusa. Poor shmuck. And the female thief seems to realize his error. Nice cover.

  24. Very nice. I would have been dead, I didn't notice the medusa until reading Greg's comment. I like the creature at the bottom of the stream, taking a bath. He seems to be aware of the adventurers and has a look on his face, as if to say, "Suckers."

  25. Denmark's cover is absolutely gorgeous.

  26. Love it. Reminds me a bit of Steve Prescott, who is one of the few post-TSR D&D illustrators I enjoy.

  27. Great cover!
I don't even play these games but I'm determined to get a copy.

  28. Brilliant piece of work...and I love the medusa with the tail, much like the original CotT

  29. Thanks Booberry. I like Steve's work. A lot.

  30. Need to ask: do you think all the gods published will have an illustration?

That's the plan, although I'm not certain it'll happen, since there are still quite a few illustrations outstanding and I won't be able to wait on them forever.

  31. I like the spelled out Old School Renaissance community

  32. This is probably the greatest piece I've seen on an "indie" product. My only complaint is that "Petty Gods" should be ever-so-slightly higher (I didn't even notice Medusa until someone pointed it out). I loooove the OSR logo which gives it that AD&D look. I had the Dungeoneer's Survival Guide on the couch when I saw this and had to do a double take.

Things take as long as they take, so please don‘t feel bad. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to adding Petty Gods to my library.

  34. Agreed on raising the 'Petty Gods' up a smidge.

If any are still unclaimed, I'm available.

  36. just want to say that i loved the OSR logo in this book. i didnt knew it :D

  37. I absolutely adore the atmosphere on this piece, the stone heads really make me think of some lost ruins of ancient culture, they kind of resemble mount Nemrut stone heads.

  38. TOTALLY needs to be some kind of deal that lets us publishers use that OSR logo!

[Also nitpick: Watch that spelling of renaissance! ;) ]
