OSRCon

Way back the start of the year, I mused about the possibility of having a get together here in Toronto for old school RPGs. Well, thanks to Chris Cunnington, it's definitely happening this summer, at the Lillian H. Smith Library downtown on August 12 and 13, with four sessions of gaming spread over the two days of the mini-con.

Right now, there are sessions for AD&D, Bushido, Champions, Labyrinth Lord, Pendragon, RuneQuest, and Traveller, among others, including two sessions in my Dwimmermount megadungeon using house-ruled OD&D. Also, Ed Greenwood will be running a 2e game set in his Forgotten Realms campaign world and I have to admit I'm really looking forward to having the chance to sit down at the table to play with him.

The cost of registration is $20 CDN until July 1. So, whether you're interested in playing or refereeing, you can still join in on the fun. This is the inaugural year of the mini-con, but it won't be the last. Here's your chance to participate in what will, I hope, become an annual event here in Toronto.

I'll be posting more details about my sessions in the next few days, in case anyone is thinking of coming and is curious about what I plan to offer on the two four-hour blocks where I'll be refereeing.

  1. Excellent! I've been looking forward to this.

Any chance of registering without using PayPal? I know this sounds finicky, but I cancelled my account with them after some of their recent shenanigans, and I'd hate to have to go back on that decision just to sign up for this event.

I'm in downtown Toronto and am happy to make cash deliveries, if that helps.

  2. I wonder how many people are checking their schedules right now, checking to see if they can fly/drive/hitchhike to Toronto this August.

  3. I wish I could be there, it sounds like a blast. Bit of a hike from California, though. :)

  4. So close and yet so far. I'll be out of the country during that time. Figures.

  5. So close yet so far, I am currently without transportation but that may change and the lack of a passport would mean getting one but I planned to anyway. It is under 450 miles from traverse city to there but if I manage to get a job that might mean a no go as well. GRRR I want to but I don't think I can and depending on a number of things this is likely out of my reach for this year.

I haven't a clue. You could always contact Chris through the OSRCon website and find out.

  7. That's going to be great! I wish we had something like that here in Brazil where I live.

  8. Just registered for your first session James! It'll be an honour to meet you in person after following your blog for a couple of years. Coming all the way from NL to do so!
I appreciate the time you guys are putting into getting this OSRcon together for us. I'm thrilled to sit at Ed's table too, having his world brought to life according to his vision.

  9. As much as I hate Forgotten Realms the commercial product, I would kill to play in a game run by Ed Greenwood in his home campaign setting.

  13. @hüth How much of a discount do you need, Chris? I might be willing to discount the ticket price for you. Plus, if you run a game, don't you get in free?
