  • Swamps
  • Ten-Foot Poles
  • The Rock
  • Things Mislaid and Unexpectedly Found
  • Vandals
  • Very Small Spiders
  • Wine and Merriment
Now, simply because a god appears on this list does not mean that it will necessarily be included in the final product. Likewise, there's no reason that someone couldn't submit a different entry for any of the above areas of patronage. However, I think it's a good idea to inform potential submitters of the submissions I've already received so that they can tailor their entries accordingly.

I'll include an up-to-date version of this list each Sunday, so people can see how the project is progressing, but I'm exceedingly happy so far. Nearly 60 entries is pretty remarkable and enough artists have stepped up to offer their services illustrating this that I have no doubt every god will have a portrait accompanying it.

Thanks again to everyone for helping to get this project off to a great start.

  1. Don't see mine on the list. Just wanted to make sure I didn't need to resend.

  2. Print Errors and Minor Heresies made me laugh out loud.

  3. Thanks Chris, that was inspired by the famous Printer's Bible misprint ("Printers have persecuted me without a cause" rather than "Princes have persecuted me..."). I presume that it was a deliberate insertion by an aggrieved typesetter.

The existence of a God of Quality Footwear suggests that he is opposed by a Shoddy God. And that they have kickboxing fights.

  4. James,

I have your submission; I simply overlooked it when I compiled my list.

  5. Whoa ... I jotted down a couple ideas when you first announced this, and I figured I get back to them in a week or so, submit them a little later. Seeing how quickly things have moved, I'm now seriously worried about getting left behind in the dust.

  6. Print Errors and Minor Heresies
    Currency Debasement

Those two most catch my fancy, though the entire list is promising.

  8. "Yes there really is a St. Covens. He's the patron saint of quality footwear." Don't you guys know a Spinal Tap reference when you see one!? Great, great stuff, Via la OSR blog o sphere!

  9. Incidentally, there is already a god (or rather a devil) of print errors, and he likely takes credit and blame for minor heresies as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Titivillus

I wouldn't worry too much about that, unless you plan to submit yet another petty god of lost items :)

  12. There is actually a "Saint Fiacre" of Ireland... I am informed he is the patron saint of gardeners, taxi cab drivers, venereal disease sufferers, barrenness, box makers, fistula, florists, hemorrhoids, hosiers, pewterers, tile makers and ploughboys. I was aware of the gardener and hemorrhoid connections; the others take me a little by surprise.
In my own campaigns, Hermes has served as a patron for both messengers and florists... although none of the players have needed any intercession from Hermes in regard to delivery of floral arrangements.

  13. I was jesting with a friend this morning about my morning rituals; it occurs to me there ought to be a god of shaving to who one sacrifice's the facial hair...and blood every now and then.

  14. I hope this makes for interesting giant random table.

  15. Is there going to be an updated version of this list?
