Blogger Woes

Blogger seems to have had some serious issues over the last 24 hours. A couple of my posts seem to have disappeared into the ether, though it's possible they may reappear later. If they're gone, they're gone; such is life. Regardless, I won't try writing anything significant today, since I have no idea if Blogger is really back up yet or if it's still in the midst of what troubles started yesterday.

  1. They said it's temporary. If not, well... Then I lost a few entries in a table, and am moving to wordpress.

  2. News here: http://buzz.blogger.com/2011/05/blogger-is-back.html

"We’re nearly back to normal — you can publish again, and in the coming hours posts and comments that were temporarily removed should be restored."

  3. Another blog I participate in lost at least two comments. Luckily, I RSS-aggregate the blog, so I was able to replace them manually.

On the whole, I'm actually surprised how reliable cloud-based services actually are when compared to local hardware. If all the bloggers had to host their own blogs on their own computers behind their own routers, the total failure instances would undoubtedly be higher. But, oddly enough, the annoyance expressed by readers would probably be less since clouds tend to aggregate the effect of failure as well as including mean reliability.

  4. Actually, some edits to some of the pages on my blog have also disappeared! I wonder if those will return...anyone know?

  5. Well, I've been very fortunate because every time I write a post I do a backup of the blog contents, so restoring lost posts and comments is very easy (if Blogger works properly, of course)

  6. Well...I think all your posts are back now. But lots of comments are still missing.

  7. The intense stare of the FGU Samurai is back down there now. And really, that's what matters.

  8. Luckily I keep my feathers numbered for just such an emergency.

  9. One of my two missing posts is back, but the keywords were changed (the commas became hashes and it combined the different keywords). Also when I went to edit this, it didn't keep the time I posted it. So I'd watch those two things if/when your posts come back.
